The Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image (BIMI) is a university-led cinema and cultural hub that explores cinema, television and screen media through research, film cultures and public engagement, challenging conventional boundaries between academic inquiry and cultural participation.
Our events programme brings together scholars, filmmakers, curators and audiences to engage with moving image culture in all its forms. From screenings and panel discussions to workshops and special presentations, we create opportunities for deep engagement with film and television—both historic and contemporary.
This blog extends and enriches those conversations. Through reviews and reflections on our events and screenings, it captures the ideas, debates and discoveries that emerge when we gather to watch and discuss films together. Here you’ll find thoughtful responses to the works we’ve shown, accounts of lively Q&As, and explorations of the themes and questions that resonate beyond the event itself. The blog keeps the conversation going—offering a space for deeper reflection and creating a lasting record of BIMI’s evolving film culture.
